April 20 Release
Please watch the New Feature Screencast video for a review of the updates in this release:
New Gradebook Override Column Persistence
This release improves the functionality of the Override column, which was introduced to the New Gradebook several months ago.
The Override column has been made a Course Setting Feature Option, meaning that the feature will apply at the course level rather than the instructor level. In courses with multiple instructors, if one instructor activates the Override column, then the column will now be visible to all instructors.
The Override column will also generate in Gradebook CSV exports for all instructors in the course:
This update provides a more consistent view of the gradebook for all instructors and resolves ambiguity as to whether the override feature has been activated.
HTML5 Functionality in BigBlueButton Conferencing
BigBlueButton, the built-in web meeting solution for Canvas, has finished a major redesign of its user interface, and now provides full HTML5 compatibility.
HTML5 is an interactive multimedia framework which provides a smoother user experience than the previous technology, Flash, which is gradually being phased out in web development. You’ll be able to access all of BigBlueButton’s powerful tools – such as whiteboard annotation, file sharing, and screen sharing – without needing additional plugins or software. HTML5 technology works best on Chrome, Firefox, and Safari browsers.
See the BigBlueButton test page for a hands-on demonstration of both the HTML5 and Flash versions of the software.

The next Canvas release will be deployed Saturday, May 11, with release notes available Monday, April 29.
