“Flip” out!

In case you haven’t noticed, we have some cool technology in the CTL. Oops, sorry, I meant to say cool AND useful! The cool and useful instructional technology item that I’d like to highlight today is the FlipCam!

FlipCams are small, very easy-to-use video cameras that can be used in the classroom for a number of interesting learning exercises. They are the size of a cell phone, and plug directly into a computer via USB. If you’re intimidated by video cameras normally, don’t worry, all you have to do is turn it on, and press the big, red record button!

Many of the most engaging exercises involve you putting the FlipCams in the hands of your students. For example, one of our business law instructors assigns group projects that require students to act out a scenario or transaction that pertains to a specific law. From what we’ve seen, the students get very creative with their videos!

If you want to learn more, and find a number of great ideas for using this technology in your classroom, start here: theinnovativeeducator.blogspot.com/2010/07/flip-your-instruction-with-flip-video.html. There are some excellent examples and ideas in there!

Contact us when you’re ready to see this technology for yourself, because we have a number of FlipCams ready for check-out in our CTL labs!
